What is STEM Club?

Street Science STEM Club is a ground-breaking initiative to bring consistent science access to schools around the country. Packed full of resources, videos, step-by-step instructions, and on-demand shows, it has everything you need to support you in setting up a STEM Club, extend your super-motivated students, or even give you ideas to deliver engaging science in the classroom.

Hosted on the digital Street Science Extended Learning Portal, this year we are releasing three ‘Species Survival’ Themed Episodes to celebrate National Science Week.

Strawberry DNA Extraction

Gear up to extract DNA strands from strawberries using a DIY genetic extraction solution crafted from everyday household items.

Witness the unveiling of DNA strands, a process that not only captivates the imagination but also fosters discussions on DNA’s crucial role in the survival and adaptation of species.

This experiment is a fascinating gateway into the world of genetics, making complex concepts accessible and engaging.

Water Filter

Create your own water filter using everyday materials, transforming murky water into clarity right before your eyes.

This engaging activity highlights the magic of filtration and sparks discussions on the critical importance of clean water for life on Earth.

It’s a simple experiment with profound implications for understanding environmental conservation and the sustenance of all species.

Compost Container

Prepare to build your own compost containers and observe the decomposition process of compostable materials over time, contrasting it with the durability of everyday non-compostable items.

This intriguing experiment not only sheds light on the effects of human consumption habits on the environment but also stimulates conversations about its implications for the survival of various species.

Note: Observing the full results of this experiment may take up to six weeks.

Episodes scheduled for release on the Street Science Extended Learning Portal on July 12th 2024

STEM Kits

For the first time, Street Science is creating a ‘Species Survival’ STEM Club kit that has all the physical materials* you need to perform three seriously fun science workshops in your classroom.

Each experiment is linked to the on-demand digital videos (included as part of a STEM Club subscription) to help teachers up-skill and deliver an engaging experience. See above for episodes and experiments in kit.

Cost per kit:

$225 +GST
Contains enough reagents for a class of 30 students
Experiments
  • Strawberry DNA Extraction
  • Water Filter
  • Compost Container
  • Our kits are most valuable when the customer has access to STEM Club (i.e. to access the digital content).
  • Pre-order by May 31st and have your kits delivered at the start of Term 3 (week of 8th July). This will give you time to review all the materials, STEM Club episodes and start the Compost Container experiment so that it’s ready by National Science Week.
  • Does not include strawberries needed for the Strawberry DNA extraction experiment. Educators will need to purchase a fresh punnet of strawberries as this leads to the best results.
Special offer

To celebrate National Science Week, we’re giving a FREE ‘Species Survival’ kit to all new Street Science STEM Club members.

The kit contains materials for three experiments for one classroom of up to 30 students, worth $225 ex GST.

Just register your interest in STEM Club using the link below BEFORE May 15th to secure your free kit.

Testimonials

Street Science and our stellar presenters Steve and Kim brought charm and creativity to our Science Week program.

Would highly recommend this organisation for its use of rich learning tasks, engaging resources and phenomenal flexibility that saw them cater to our P-12 remote NT school!

Thanks so much for the visit and we hope to have you back soon 🙂

– Senior Teacher, Kalkaringi School

It was great. Danni and Gelson were very engaging for the students.

I wouldn’t do anything differently, as it always works so well. We will be booking in for next year.

– Teacher,
Sunshine Beach State School

Street Science visited our school for an incursion. Everyone (teachers and students) involved loved it. Jono was an amazing presenter and kept the kids engaged and amazed.

I cannot recommend Street Science enough. We will definitely be using them again.
